2021 Round Up
It’s safe to say that 2020 was far from plain-sailing. For many it was a year filled with anxiety and uncertainty, countless twists and turns which left people itching for a fresh start. Bring on 2021! However, in many ways, the beginning of 2021 didn’t feel dissimilar to the previous year. Starting January in lockdown, it was important to try and not let the hang-ups of last year follow us into the coming months. Gladly, as the days and weeks unfolded, 2021 did start to feel different.
Kicking-off the new year, the BM team continued working remotely from our homes. With a hearty mix of tea, comfy clothes and Google Meet Up calls, we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck into various jobs including animation, branding, editorial work and web design. Even though we are a small team at Bryce Mennell, it’s very important to be flexible in how we work. Being able to work from home and the studio allows us to do this in that we can tailor our time effectively, and having a healthy work/life balance is vital for ourselves as individuals and as a company. Flexible working is something we adopted through 2020/21 and will carry on implementing through 2022 and beyond.
As summer rolled around and the team started to return to the studio, we decided to extend the BM family, Lauren, our new Studio Exec couldn’t have fit it any better. Hitting the ground running, organising, streamlining studio processes and also getting involved with creative work, it’s plain to see that we are all the richer for having Lauren as part of the team.
In August, we also saw the return of our brilliant Graphic Designer, Danica who had been on maternity leave after the arrival of her baby boy. Welcome to the world, Harry! Great to have you back Danica!
In terms of work, it’s been a very busy year! Many campaign roll outs, editorial work and lots of signage, for our clients British Land, Brighton Marina, HullBid and Xscape. We’ve also worked on a number of fantastic branding jobs for various clients including Fulcrum, West Euston Project, and RSPCA Hull and East Riding. We’re not only delighted to support the RSPCA with graphics and creative advice, but are the proud sponsors of a kennel within the new, state-of-the art animal rescue centre. A big piece of all our hearts is with the animals at the centre, so we’re excited to be one of the lucky ones to help provide the warm, comfortable place the dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets deserve.
After a hectic and challenging year, our Christmas do felt long overdue. A competitive couple of rounds at Crazy Golf lead to a trip to the pub for some festive bevvies before retiring to a Brazilian restaurant for a lovely meal. Moments like this that make me thankful for the team I work with, myself personally and I’m sure many others would have found this year incredibly difficult if it wasn’t for having great people around them.
Continuing into 2022 we have lots of exciting branding projects – An ice cream parlour, a travel blog, further brochure and campaign roll outs for British Land, and of course our very important work will continue with our local RSPCA branch. So in reflection of 2021, I am left incredibly grateful. Grateful for my health, grateful for my family, and grateful that I get to come in to work everyday to do the job I love with an amazing team of people who are so talented, so supportive and so kind-hearted.
Here’s to 2022!
