Fullback Friday - Hull Kingston Rovers

The new rugby league season has well and truly kicked off and we’re excited to follow both Hull teams at BM!

What better time to throw it back to one of our favourite creative projects of recent years. We celebrated the legends, the good times and the history with our pitch-winning creative for the wonderful Hull KR’s Heritage Group stadium timeline. The lottery-funded project was to produce high impact visuals, telling the story of the club, from 1882, to attract new crowds and make their loyal supporters feel valued.

We always love a blank canvas (or, in this case, a blank stadium), and on this occasion we were supplied with a brilliantly open brief! So, we tackled the challenge head-on and got stuck into researching, meeting with ex-players, supporters’ groups, writers and of course the Heritage Group, in order to develop their ideas alongside our creative insight.

An early challenge was deciding on the location to place all the artwork within the stadium, and we were thrilled to be able to create a full-throttle fan tour around the park, using a variety of different print and display methods. We crafted huge wall graphics in the team tunnel, messages for the crowd to see in key areas and impactful ‘legend’ displays, which the supporters loved. We also created interactive games for junior supporters.

Bryce Mennell have links with the Hull Kingston Rovers team that go back to the team’s glory years, so for our team, this opportunity was like a dream come true. If ever a job was ‘meant to be’, it was this one.

We were so proud to work with the Heritage group, and following the success of the timeline, we were delighted to be asked to do more work for them, including a schools’ programme and a travelling museum.

With three early wins, tonnes of pride and more than a little respect for this team, and the work we did together, we’ll be cheering Hull Kingston Rovers through another strong season.
