Some jobs stay with you long after they’ve been completed. Our work with the wonderful Hull Kingston Rovers Heritage Group is a perfect example of this.
When the red red robin...
GIVE A LITTLE RESPECT
Hull Kingston Rovers are a professional rugby league club in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire. The initial brief was to create a heritage timeline of the stadium, from 1882 to present day, plus future development of the story that’s still to come.
The objective for this lottery-funded project was to produce high impact visuals telling the story of the club, to attract new crowds and make their loyal supporters feel valued.
Amazingly, we were given the loosest of briefs and a ‘blank piece of paper’ to work with, or in this case a blank stadium.
We researched, met with ex-players, supporters groups, writers and of course the Heritage Group to develop our ideas and theirs.
An early challenge was the location of the timeline. There was no one place within the stadium to place all the artwork, so we were thrilled to be able to create a tour around the park, using a variety of different print and display methods.
THE DREAM TEAM
There were huge wall graphics in the team tunnel, messages for the crowd to see in key areas and ‘legend’ displays, which the supporters loved. We also created interactive games for junior supporters.
Bryce Mennell have links with the Hull Kingston Rovers team that go back to the team’s glory years, so for our team, this opportunity was like a dream come true. If ever a job was ‘meant to be’, it was this one.
We were so proud to work with the Heritage Group, and following the success of the timeline, we were delighted to be asked to do more work for them, including a schools programme and a travelling museum.
Inspiring the next generation…
We organised a full classroom heritage programme, covering the school syllabus and supported the Heritage Group in delivering it. The travelling museum involved turning a ‘tour bus’ into a mini museum which then went on tour to schools, dementia-specific residential homes and matches – it was a real hit. The Heritage Group do such incredible work in their community and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it
